West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who is on a foreign tour, faced protests during an event at a college. While she was delivering a speech, some protesters interrupted her with anti-TMC slogans. However, she responded strongly, and her reply was met with loud applause from the audience.
On Thursday, Mamata spoke about Bengal’s industrialization at Kellogg College, Oxford University. During her speech, some protesters held placards mentioning Bengal election violence, the RG Kar incident, and the Jadavpur University incident. They raised slogans against the TMC government. In response, Mamata firmly said, “Speak louder, I can’t hear you. I’m ready to listen to everything you have to say. Do you know the RG Kar case is pending? The central government is investigating it. This is not a political platform. If you have the courage, come to Bengal and debate with me.”
Addressing one of the protesters, she added, “Look, my brother, don’t spread lies. I sympathize with you, but instead of doing politics here, strengthen your party in Bengal and fight us there.” As the protesters became more aggressive, she responded again, saying, “By insulting me, you are disrespecting your own institution. I am here as a representative of the nation, so do not disgrace your country.” Her words received huge applause from the audience. As per their request, the protesters eventually left, and Mamata continued her speech. Cricket legend Sourav Ganguly was also present on stage during the event.

She doesn’t flinch. She doesn’t falter. The more you heckle, the fiercer she roars. Smt. @MamataOfficial is a Royal Bengal Tiger!#DidiAtOxford pic.twitter.com/uqrck6sjFd
