A moderate 5.4 earthquake shook Queensland’s eastern coastline early Saturday, originating 10 kilometers underground, as reported by the European Seismological Center.
The tremors affected nearby towns and cities, with reports of some property damage in densely populated areas.
Authorities have not confirmed casualties but remain on high alert. Researchers had earlier flagged the region as a high-risk seismic zone, and Geoscience Australia is currently assessing the situation.
