Massive 7.1 Earthquake Strikes Kamchatka Region, Tsunami Risk Monitored

A strong 7.1 magnitude quake struck Russia’s Kamchatka at a depth of 10 km. A tsunami advisory was issued, but no major damage or casualties have been reported.

The quake follows a series of powerful tremors in July and August, including an 8.8 quake that triggered a volcanic eruption and several others above magnitude 6.

Seismologists link the activity to tectonic stress along the Pacific Ring of Fire and warn more stronger quakes may follow. Authorities remain on high alert.
