Modi Extends Support To Nepals First Woman PM After Unrest

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held his first conversation with Nepal’s newly appointed leader, Sushila Karki, expressing condolences over recent protest-related losses of life and reaffirming India’s support for peace and stability.

Earlier, Modi congratulated Karki on becoming Nepal’s first woman prime minister after KP Sharma Oli’s abrupt resignation amid violent Gen Z-led demonstrations against social media bans and corruption.

The unrest saw government buildings, including Parliament, set ablaze, with the casualty count crossing 50. Karki, 73, will form a small Cabinet on Sunday following her swearing-in.
