Jersey City, NJ, India: The Gandhian Society, in collaboration with the Indian Consulate, organised an event to honour the 156th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on October 3 in New Jersey, USA.

The gathering saw around 400 participants, including community leaders, officials, and representatives from various organisations. The event focused on reflection, remembrance, and reaffirming dedication to Gandhian values.

Pragya Singh, Consul for Community and Cultural Affairs at the Indian Consulate, represented the Consulate at the event. In her remarks, she highlighted how Gandhi’s principles of peace, non-violence, and selfless service remain significant in today’s complex world.

Mahesh Wani, Secretary of the Gandhian Society, shared the organisation’s Annual Report, outlining initiatives to spread Gandhian ideals through educational programs such as essay and video competitions, as well as cultural events including exhibitions and talk shows.

He also detailed the Society’s humanitarian activities, supporting disadvantaged communities both in India and locally, and concluded by urging attendees to contribute to relief efforts for victims of recent floods in India.

The celebration included a variety of cultural performances to honour Gandhi’s legacy. The program featured a Bhajan Sandhya by celebrated singer Varsha Joshi and a theatrical presentation titled Gandhi Zinda Hai by Deepak Gupta and his team. The evening also included musical and dance performances by young local artists, alongside a Khadi Fashion Show highlighting designs by Sonal Gadhavi.

Bhadra Butala, founder of the Gandhian Society, expressed her thanks to everyone present and emphasised the shared responsibility to continue Gandhi’s mission of compassion and service.
