Heavy rains have caused severe flooding in Nigeria’s Mokwa, Niger State, killing nearly 700 people. Torrential rains on Thursday morning flooded the town within five hours, with over 200 bodies recovered and around 500 missing, presumed drowned. Rescue efforts have been halted due to slim chances of survivors.
Mokwa, a major commercial hub for farmers, suffered massive damage. Two roads and bridges were destroyed, thousands were displaced, hundreds of homes were lost, and many were injured.
