Over 60 Dead In Nigeria Boat Accident, Emergency Rescue Underway

A ferry tragedy in Niger State resulted in the deaths of at least 60 individuals after the vessel, transporting more than 100 people, collided with a hidden tree stump near Gausawa en route to Dugga.

Rescuers pulled dozens to safety, yet ten passengers are in critical condition, and several remain unaccounted for.

Recovery teams have retrieved 31 bodies, mostly women and children, with four laid to rest following Islamic customs.

Rescue teams are continuing their search for missing passengers. Overcrowded boats, poor maintenance, and lax safety regulations are persistent issues in Nigeria, making such disasters more likely during the rainy season.
