Powerful Earthquake Hits Papua New Guinea: Tsunami Warning Issued

A powerful earthquake struck Papua New Guinea, an island nation in the Pacific Ocean. According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake measured 6.9 on the Richter scale. It occurred 194 kilometers from Kimbe, a town in West New Britain Province. The quake's epicenter was at a depth of 10 kilometers. Following the tremors, the U.S. authorities issued tsunami warnings.

Just a week ago, severe earthquakes devastated Myanmar and Thailand. On the afternoon of the 28th of last month, Myanmar was struck by earthquakes measuring 7.7 and 6.3 magnitude within minutes. Shortly after, Thailand experienced a 6.4 magnitude quake.The disaster in Myanmar left over 3,000 people dead and more than 4,000 injured, with hundreds still missing. Rescue operations by multiple countries are currently underway in the affected areas.
