Punjabi Businessman Shot Dead in Canada, Third Such Killing in 8 Months

Surrey, British Columbia, Canada: The Punjabi community was left shaken after a 48-year-old businessman, Binder Garcha, was fatally shot in Surrey, Canada, on Tuesday afternoon. Garcha hailed from Mallan Bedian village near Nawanshahr.

Garcha was the owner of Studio 12 and a banquet facility and had built a strong reputation in the wedding photography and videography industry. The shooting occurred close to Ghuman Farms in Surrey.

The investigation is being led by Surrey Integrated Homicide Investigation Team officials. During the probe, police recovered a burned vehicle that is believed to be connected to the killing.

The incident has heightened fear among Punjabis living in Canada, as influential business owners are increasingly becoming targets. In recent months, several entrepreneurs have been murdered, while many others have faced gun attacks on their establishments.

In October 2025, well-known Punjabi-Canadian businessman Darshan Singh Sahsi, aged 68, was shot dead outside his residence in Abbotsford, British Columbia. Originally from Rajgarh near Doraha in Ludhiana, Sahsi served as the president of Canam International, one of the worlds leading clothing recycling companies.

Earlier, on June 11 last year, 57-year-old Punjabi-origin entrepreneur Satwinder Sharma was killed inside his Surrey office. Sharma had operated a workforce supply firm for over three decades and was a respected figure within the local Punjabi community.
