Russian President Vladimir Putin made a controversial statement, claiming 'the whole of Ukraine belongs to Russia,' as Russians and Ukrainians are 'the same." Speaking at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, he insisted Russia doesn’t want to destroy Ukraine but accused Ukraine of creating its problems.

He ruled out taking over Sumi and said peace would require Ukraine to drop NATO ambitions and recognize Russian control over occupied territories.

Putin denied attacking residential areas in Kyiv, stating only military targets were hit. He expressed readiness for talks with Zelensky, but questioned Zelensky's legitimacy, noting his term ended last year under martial law.

He said any peace deal must be signed by legally recognized authorities, warning that without legitimacy, future leaders could dismiss any agreement.
