Sheikh Hasina Accused of Plotting to Overthrow Interim Government

Sheikh Hasina, the ousted Prime Minister of Bangladesh, has been accused of plotting to overthrow the interim government led by Yunus through an internal rebellion. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) filed a complaint against Hasina and 72 others at the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Dhaka. Taking the complaint into consideration, the court instructed CID to launch an investigation on Thursday.

According to CID, an online platform called "Joy Bangla Brigade" held a meeting on December 19, 2024, where discussions took place on reinstating Hasina as Prime Minister through civil conflict. It was reported that the virtual meeting, led by Dr. Rabbi Alam, decided that the interim government should not continue. CID also confirmed that they have obtained recordings of the meeting, in which Hasina and others participated.

As per CID, this meeting was organized under Hasina’s instructions by Awami League leader Alam, who is based in the United States. A total of 577 individuals from Bangladesh and other countries participated in the event, and Alam has been named as the second accused in the case. Notably, the interim government led by Yunus had already filed multiple charges against Hasina, who is currently residing in India.
