Sheikh Hasina Assets Seized: Dhaka Court Freezes Bank Accounts Amid Corruption Probe

Former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has suffered a major shock as a Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of her bank accounts along with the assets of her family members. As per the order, 124 bank accounts linked to her family will be frozen.

Sheikh Hasina was forced to resign from her position as Prime Minister last year in August due to widespread riots. On August 5, she stepped down and took refuge in India. The interim government, led by Muhammad Yunus, has been making efforts to bring her back, including canceling her passport and writing to the Indian government. However, India has not responded, and Bangladesh's attempts have not yielded results. Now, the Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of her bank accounts and family assets.

Deputy Director of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Monirul Islam, filed a petition seeking orders to seize Hasina’s assets. On Tuesday, Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hussain conducted a hearing and issued orders to confiscate properties, including her residence ‘Sudhasadan.’ The order also includes assets belonging to her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, daughter Saima Wazed Putul, sister Sheikh Rehana, and her nieces. Additionally, a travel ban has been imposed on them, and their 124 bank accounts have been frozen.
