Washington, D.C., USA: Aspen Digital has announced the launch of its Community & Tech Leaders Initiative, a program designed to equip community advocates with the knowledge and skills needed to address the most urgent challenges emerging from the tech world.
Among the first cohort of ten leaders selected for this initiative is Sim J. Singh Attariwala, Director of the Anti-Hate Program at Asian Americans Advancing Justice (AAJC).
Through this program, participants will receive hands-on training and direct access to policymakers and technology experts. The goal is to empower community leaders to contribute effectively to shaping a more inclusive and equitable technology landscape.
In his current role at AAJC, Attariwala leads national efforts to combat hate-fueled violence and discrimination. His work includes policy development, community engagement, educational initiatives, and advocacy to protect historically marginalised communities, particularly those of Asian descent.
Before joining AAJC, Attariwala headed the U.S. Department of Justice’s Centre for Faith-Based and Neighbourhood Partnerships, where he collaborated with the White House and federal agencies to promote equal access to justice, address hate crimes, and combat religious discrimination.
Attariwala holds multiple degrees, including an LL.M. from Georgetown University Law Centre, a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from Nova Southeastern University’s Shepard Broad College of Law, and a B.S. in Information Systems Management from Florida International University.
Aspen Digital’s initiative aims to close the gap between community-driven organisations and the tech sector. While emerging technologies offer immense opportunities, many grassroots leaders lack the technical resources or training to participate in conversations shaping digital innovation. This program seeks to bridge that divide, ensuring diverse perspectives play a role in the future of technology and policy.
