Tesla has been fined $242 million (₹2,100 crore) by a Florida court over a 2019 accident caused by a fault in its Autopilot system.
The crash occurred in Key Largo when driver George McGee, distracted while retrieving his phone, failed to intervene as the Tesla, on autopilot, lost control and hit two people.
A 22-year-old woman lost her life, while her companion sustained critical injuries in the tragic incident.
The court ordered total compensation of $329 million, with Tesla paying the bulk and McGee covering the rest. Tesla has expressed dissatisfaction with the ruling and plans to appeal.
