The Trump administration, which had already imposed several restrictions on the renowned Harvard University, has now targeted Columbia University as well. It recently issued warnings that it might revoke the university’s recognition. According to a BBC report, a government official accused Columbia University of failing to protect Jewish students after the Hamas attack on Israel and alleged that the university was showing bias against Jews.
In addition, the Trump administration intensified sanctions against Harvard University by suspending visa issuance for foreign students seeking admission there. Although similar orders were issued last month, they were struck down by the Boston Federal Court. The administration then cited other legal provisions in its latest statement. Harvard University representatives condemned these orders, describing them as acts of hostility.
Harvard clarified its commitment to safeguarding its foreign students and stated that Trump’s decision was unconstitutional. They also claimed that the university was facing retaliatory actions because it refused to comply with the administration’s orders. Along with visa suspensions, disputes continue between the university and the Trump government on various issues. Moreover, the government recently froze $450 million in funds that were supposed to be released to the university.
