Trump Halts $21M Aid to India, Questions Financial Support

Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump made notable remarks about India. Recently, the U.S. halted its $21 million aid meant to boost voter participation in India. On Tuesday (February 18), Trump signed the related documents, officially ending this funding.

Speaking on the decision, Trump questioned, "Why should we give India $21 million in aid? They have plenty of money. They impose heavy taxes on us. I respect India and its Prime Minister." He also announced that starting April 2, the U.S. would impose a 25% tariff on imported vehicles.

Following Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent U.S. visit, Elon Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency (DVoGE) decided to stop aid to India. This decision was part of cost-cutting measures, affecting not just India but also Bangladesh, Pakistan, and other countries receiving U.S. assistance.
