Trump Imposes 100% Tariff On Foreign Semiconductors, With Exceptions

President Trump announced a 100% tariff on imported semiconductors, exempting companies with U.S. investments. TSMC, Samsung, and SK Hynix will avoid the tariff due to their U.S. facilities.

The move follows Apple’s $600B investment and builds on the 2022 CHIPS Act, which encourages domestic chip production.

The Philippines may face major losses, as semiconductors are a key export. The tariffs take effect Thursday, alongside other trade measures on steel, autos, and pharmaceuticals.
