The annual H-1B visa fee has been raised to $1 lakh (about ₹88 lakh). The White House explained that several U.S. companies are replacing American tech workers with foreign employees. Trump reiterated that Americans should have the first right to jobs.
According to official data:
- One firm cut 16,000 U.S. jobs while receiving 5,189 H-1B visas.
- Another got 1,698 visas after laying off 2,400 workers.
- A third secured 25,075 visas but laid off 27,000 employees since 2022.
- One more firm received 1,137 visas for FY 2025, after cutting 1,000 jobs in February.
There are also claims that U.S. staff were dismissed without notice and asked to train foreign hires.
