Former US President Donald Trump claimed he did not know American imports of Russian chemicals and fertilisers, after India pointed out that the US still sources uranium hexafluoride and other materials from Russia.

Trump's comment came after he announced plans to "substantially raise" tariffs on India over its Russian oil purchases, accusing India of profiting from reselling the oil while ignoring the Ukraine war.

India strongly rejected Trump’s remarks, calling them "unjustified and unreasonable." The Ministry of External Affairs explained its imports from Russia were based on energy security needs after Western nations redirected supplies to Europe.

India also highlighted that the US and EU continue significant trade with Russia, making the criticism hypocritical. The MEA stressed that India would take necessary steps to protect its economic and national interests.
