U.S. President Donald Trump is shaking up global trade with tariffs. He has already imposed tariffs on products from Canada, Mexico, and China. Additionally, he warned that countries imposing tariffs on American goods would face reciprocal tariffs. Now, the U.S. has once again targeted Canada with significant tariffs.
Ontario province in Canada imposed a 25% tariff on electricity exports to the U.S. In response, Trump doubled tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum products, raising them to 50%. In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that he had instructed his trade secretary to add an extra 25% tariff on affected products starting Wednesday morning.
Trump also demanded that Canada immediately reduce tariffs on American dairy products, which range between 250% and 390%, calling them unfair. He further warned that if Canada fails to lower long-standing tariffs, he would significantly increase tariffs on Canadian car imports to the U.S. starting April 2.
