Typhoon Kajiki Kills 3, Causes Major Flooding In Vietnam

At least three lives were lost and ten people were injured in northern Vietnam after Typhoon Kajiki struck, unleashing heavy floods, landslides, and widespread power cuts.

Nearly 7,000 homes, 28,800 hectares of rice fields, 18,000 trees, and 331 electricity poles were damaged across several provinces, while Hanoi streets were left submerged.

On Monday, the system struck Vietnam’s north-central shoreline, then lost strength as it moved inland and downgraded to a tropical depression while crossing into Laos.

Authorities warned of continued heavy rains, up to 150mm in six hours, risking flash floods and landslides.

Earlier, Kajiki had skirted China’s Hainan Island, shutting down businesses and transport in Sanya.
