U.S. Deports Second Batch of Illegal Indian Migrants, Flight to Amritsar Sparks Controversy
During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the U.S., another major development has surfaced. The Trump administration is deporting Indian migrants who are staying illegally without proper documentation. Earlier, on February 5, a A U.S. military aircraft transported 104 deported Indian nationals to Amritsar. Now, reports suggest that a second round of deportations is underway, with another flight carrying deported Indians expected to arrive in Amritsar on Saturday (February 15).

Since Donald Trump became U.S. President, he has enforced strict measures against illegal immigrants from various countries. Meanwhile, India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has stated that India is willing to accept deported Indian migrants. In a recent Rajya Sabha session, Jaishankar revealed that since 2009, the U.S. has deported 15,668 illegal Indian immigrants.

However, controversy has arisen over the decision to land the deportation flight in Amritsar. Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Cheema has accused the BJP-led central government of deliberately targeting Punjab. He alleged that the government intends to defame Punjab and questioned why the deportation flights were not landed in Haryana or Gujarat instead.
