U.S. Plans Visa Crackdown on Chinese Students

U.S. Senator Marco Rubio has stated that the government is preparing to cancel the visas of Chinese students, especially those involved in research and those with ties to the Chinese Communist Party. He emphasized that the focus is on revoking visas of students linked to sensitive sectors. So far, there has been no official response from the Chinese Embassy in the U.S. Pressure is mounting on American universities to cut all ties with China.

Republican lawmakers have recently advised Duke University in this regard. They alleged that Chinese students are gaining access to studies funded by the U.S. government. Among international students in the U.S., Indians hold the top spot, followed by Chinese students. In the past year alone, 277,398 Chinese students were enrolled in U.S. universities. Former President Donald Trump had already initiated strict actions on foreign students.

The U.S. government has recently imposed strict regulations on international students. Even minor violations like traffic offenses have reportedly led to deportation orders, sparking widespread discussion. Additionally, missing classes, dropping out, or discontinuing studies without prior notice may result in visa cancellations by educational institutions. Officials have warned that such students may be permanently disqualified from obtaining U.S. visas in the future. Following Marco Rubio’s directives, student visa interviews have been temporarily paused, with authorities analyzing applicants' social media accounts to identify potential threats to national security.
