Vanuatu Cancels Lalit Modi Citizenship Amid Extradition Efforts

The Vanuatu government has delivered a major blow to IPL creator and former chairman Lalit Modi by canceling his citizenship. Vanuatu Prime Minister Jotham Napat directed the Citizenship Commission to revoke Lalit Modi’s citizenship. Recently, Lalit Modi had obtained a "Golden Passport" from the South Pacific nation of Vanuatu. Meanwhile, India has been making efforts to extradite him over financial irregularities. India has already requested London for his extradition, but reports suggest that Lalit Modi had relocated to Vanuatu. Following this, the Vanuatu government decided to cancel his passport.

After international media reports on Lalit Modi surfaced, the Vanuatu government took immediate action. Prime Minister Jotham Napat officially requested the country's Citizenship Commission to revoke his passport, as confirmed by his office.

Lalit Modi left India in 2010 following allegations of misappropriating crores of rupees during his tenure as IPL chairman. Subsequently, he was banned and fled to London. On February 14, Valentine’s Day, he introduced his new girlfriend, mentioning their long-time friendship. Previously, he had also shared pictures with former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen on social media, stating that they were traveling together. However, recently, he introduced another new girlfriend, leaving many surprised.
