Cincinnati, Ohio, USA: Former U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy will headline as the keynote speaker at an upcoming summit dedicated to inclusion and the importance of human connection.
The gathering, called the “Inclusion Seekers Summit 2025,” is scheduled to take place on October 9 at the Cincinnati Art Museum.
This annual event is being presented by Starfire, a Cincinnati-based nonprofit. Since its founding in 1993, Starfire has focused on creating more inclusive communities by emphasizing the strengths and personal stories of individuals with developmental disabilities. The group partners with families and local leaders to reduce social isolation, foster belonging, and encourage meaningful participation in community life.
The Inclusion Seekers Summit is designed to inspire change by equipping both individuals and organizations with practical ways to counter loneliness. The program highlights approaches that build genuine community ties and promote a stronger sense of belonging.
In addition to Dr. Murthy, the summit will feature a diverse lineup of voices. Among them are Nithya Narayan, a member of Starfire’s Family Leadership team, and Dr. Tasha Faruqui, a pediatrician and author. Other speakers will include architects, community developers, medical professionals, and artists—all sharing their insights on addressing disconnection and strengthening social bonds.
Dr. Murthy has been a prominent voice on the issue of loneliness. In July 2025, he introduced “The Together Project,” a national effort launched in Miami to address social disconnection, supported by funding from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. He also authored the 2020 book “Together: The Healing Power of Human Connection in a Sometimes Lonely World,” which explores the health and social impacts of isolation.
