She has been actively advocating for democratic reforms and resisting the administration of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro for several years. Machado has earned global recognition for her courage and her unwavering commitment to uphold democratic principles. Yet, even prior to the official announcement, her name was circulating on social media and betting platforms, sparking considerable controversy. This situation has raised concerns regarding the confidentiality of the Nobel Committee’s selection process.

A striking surge in betting odds for Maria—rising from 3.75% to 73% just hours before the Nobel declaration—has ignited debate in international media circles.
