India blocks China’s Global Times, Xinhua on X for spreading misinformation on Arunachal Pradesh and Operation Sindoor. Learn the facts now.
The Indian government has taken action by restricting access to the official X accounts (formerly Twitter) of China's state-run media outlets, Global Times and Xinhua, within the country. This move comes in response to the dissemination of misleading claims related to Operation Sindoor. Earlier this week, the Indian Embassy in Beijing reportedly issued a warning to the Global Times. The platform X also urged the outlet to verify facts thoroughly before publishing unverified reports.
In a separate message, the Indian Embassy highlighted that several accounts on X, known to support Pakistan, have been spreading baseless information and creating public confusion. "Spreading misinformation without any factual support is unacceptable, especially from credible media institutions. Such acts breach core journalistic ethics," the embassy stated.
India has also responded strongly to China's recent provocative moves. Once again, China has attempted to rename certain locations in Arunachal Pradesh, labeling them as part of southern Tibet. In response, the Indian government restricted the X account of Global Times, citing its role in promoting false narratives around the renaming issue. Similarly, China’s Xinhua News account and Turkiye’s TRT World account have faced similar restrictions due to related misinformation.
Reacting to the situation, Randhir Jaiswal of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs condemned the renaming attempts, saying, "We have noticed desperate efforts by China to rename locations in Arunachal Pradesh. We firmly oppose this. Arunachal Pradesh has always been, and will always remain, an integral part of India. That fact cannot be altered or denied." India emphasized that such tactics by China have occurred before, and each time, India has effectively countered them.
