Washington, D.C., USA: Former U.S. President Donald Trump has called for the immediate removal of a prominent Microsoft executive, Lisa Monaco, citing her as a potential national security risk. Trump shared his demand through a post on his social media platform, Truth.
Lisa Monaco currently serves as Microsoft’s President of Global Affairs. She previously held key roles in the U.S. government, including senior national security adviser under President Barack Obama and Deputy Attorney General during President Joe Biden’s term from 2021 to 2025. Monaco completed her studies at Harvard University and the University of Chicago Law School. She joined Microsoft in July 2025. In his statement, Trump said, “Her appointment is concerning. She occupies a high-level position with access to extremely sensitive information, which makes her continued tenure in this role unacceptable.”
Trump highlighted the extensive collaborations between Microsoft and the U.S. government and labeled Monaco a national security threat. “She has reportedly been involved in multiple unlawful activities and has already faced sanctions without having access to intelligence reports from national security agencies,” he wrote. “Therefore, she should be removed from Microsoft immediately.” When questioned about these demands, Microsoft reportedly declined to comment, according to international media outlets.
The controversy draws connections to Monaco’s prior government service. During the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol, Monaco was serving as Deputy Attorney General. Later, she continued her work in the Biden administration. In February 2025, Trump revoked her security clearances, claiming her involvement in illegal activities, further fueling the current dispute over her role at Microsoft.
