New York City, NY, USA:  A vibrant mix of New York performers, nightlife figures, and activists are lining up in support of Queens Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani’s run for mayor.

In a city where art and politics often intertwine, Mamdani’s campaign is drawing momentum from a uniquely New York coalition: drag performers, stage actors, queer advocates, and celebrated cultural figures.

A newly promoted Instagram event, titled “Drag Diva Bash NYC,” is set to serve as both a fundraiser and rally for Mamdani’s mayoral campaign. Scheduled for October 23, from 6 to 9 p.m., the evening promises drag shows, cocktails, and what the organisers call “purposeful community engagement.”

The promotional materials lead with a playful slogan: “Drag yourself to the polls!” The message encourages New Yorkers to support Mamdani at the ballot while highlighting the political influence of a cultural community that is seldom directly engaged in electoral politics.

The guest list reads like a who’s who of New York’s performance and activist scene. Confirmed participants include Amber Martin, Cynthia Nixon, Peppermint (@peppermint247), Boom Boom Hiller, Brita Filter (@thebritafilter), John Cameron Mitchell, Qween Jean, Margaret Cho, Kevin Aviance, and Denee Benton. The event is promoted with the tagline: “A drag diva bash: You had me at Zohran!”

Actor and writer Craig Chester (@mrcraigchester), who serves on the Host Committee, shared his excitement on social media. “Thrilled to join the Host Committee for this lively evening of performances, cocktails, and community — all to support our future mayor @zohrankmamdani!” he wrote.

Event organisers note that the evening has the support of the Working Families Party, an influential group that has helped raise Mamdani’s profile beyond his Astoria district base.
