The Trump administration has directed immigration officers to vet visa, green card, and citizenship applicants for "anti-Americanism," expanding existing social media checks.
The policy allows officials to deny applications if an applicant is linked to anti-American views, terrorist groups, or antisemitic activity.
USCIS stated that immigration benefits are “a privilege, not a right,” and those promoting anti-American ideologies should not receive them.
The move is expected to discourage immigrants and international students, especially from India, from pursuing opportunities in the US.
Recently, the US also revoked over 6,000 student visas, while embassies were told to scrutinize applicants showing hostility towards American values, culture, or institutions.
