Taipei, Taiwan: Taipei: Typhoon Gaemi has caused the cancellation of 462 flights early Wednesday morning. The Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) has also announced the suspension of all train services starting from noon.

By 10 a.m. on Wednesday, the Civil Aeronautics Administration reported that 201 international and cross-strait flights, along with 261 domestic flights, were canceled. Additionally, 14 flights experienced delays.

China Airlines (CAL) and EVA Airways (EVA Air), Taiwan’s two largest international carriers, have canceled over 70 flights. Affected routes include flights to and from South Korea’s Incheon and Gimpo, Japan’s Fukuoka, Indonesia’s Jakarta, China’s Shanghai, Hong Kong, Macau, and Palau.

Other airlines announcing flight cancellations include Tigerair Taiwan, Cathay Pacific Airways, China Southern Airlines, Thai Vietjet Air, and UNI Airways.

The Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) has announced a suspension of all train services across Taiwan from noon Wednesday until midnight Thursday. Similarly, Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR) Corp. will halt its regular train services from noon but will operate three northbound and three southbound trains per hour, stopping at all stations.

By 11 a.m., the Central Weather Administration (CWA) reported that the eye of Typhoon Gaemi was approximately 160 kilometers southeast of Yilan, moving west-northwest at 18-13 kilometers per hour. The typhoon is packing maximum sustained winds of up to 184 kph and gusts reaching 227 kph.

Typhoon Gaemi is anticipated to make landfall in Yilan and Hualien counties around midnight Wednesday, bringing strong winds and heavy rain to Taiwan, according to the CWA.
