Mahatma Gandhis Bust Unveiled at Nebraska State Capitol: A Tribute to Peace and Nonviolence

Seattle, Washington: Governor Jim Pillen unveiled a bust of Mahatma Gandhi at the Nebraska State Capitol, marking the first such tribute in the nine states under the Indian Consulate in Seattle.

The event was attended by notable figures, including Lieutenant Governor Joe Kelly, former Senator Ben Nelson, and Coach Tom Osborne, along with Consul General of India, Prakash Gupta.

Governor Pillen emphasized Gandhi’s enduring values of peace, nonviolence, and justice in addressing contemporary challenges.

In a symbolic gesture, Governor Pillen issued a proclamation declaring December 6 as "Mahatma Gandhi Remembrance Day" in Nebraska. This follows a similar tribute at Seattle’s Space Needle in October, reflecting a growing regional commitment to honoring Gandhi’s ideals.

The bust stands as a symbol of peace and unity within the Nebraska State Capitol, with hopes of inspiring future generations.
