Democrat Suhas Subramanyam has emerged victorious in the race for Virginia’s 10th Congressional District, defeating Republican Mike Clancy. This win makes Subramanyam the first Indian-American to be elected to Congress from the East Coast.
Subramanyam secured 206,870 votes, or 52.1 percent of the total, while Clancy garnered 190,099 votes, representing 47.9 percent. In his victory speech, Subramanyam vowed to focus on securing funding for Virginia’s infrastructure and protecting federal workers from potential government shutdowns.

Expressing his gratitude on X, Subramanyam shared, “I am honored and humbled that the people of Virginia’s 10th District have entrusted me to tackle the toughest challenges and bring results to Congress. This district is my home. I got married here, my wife Miranda and I are raising our daughters here, and the issues that matter to our community are personal to us. It is a privilege to continue serving this district in Washington.”
Before this, Subramanyam served as a tech policy adviser during the Obama administration and was the first Indian-American elected to both the Virginia House of Delegates and the Senate. He received backing from the outgoing Representative Jennifer Wexton, who, due to health reasons, announced her retirement and endorsed Subramanyam as her successor.
Wexton congratulated Subramanyam on X, writing, "I couldn’t be prouder to call Suhas my next Congressman and to have him carry on my legacy of fighting for the families of #VA10."
