Nairobi County, Nairobi, Kenya: Three Indian nationals who had travelled to Kenya were reportedly abducted after arriving in Nairobi. Following the intervention of the Indian Embassy in Nairobi, Kenyan authorities launched an investigation and coordinated a special operation with local police to secure their release.
The three Indians had travelled to Kenya on August 5. After arriving at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, they were allegedly taken by a man in an auto-rickshaw to a house some distance from the airport. They were reportedly detained there and prevented from communicating with people outside. After their whereabouts remained unknown, a kidnapping case was registered.
Following the intervention of the Indian Embassy in Nairobi, officials from Kenya's Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) began investigating the case. Authorities also initiated an investigation into possible human trafficking links.
According to the information released by the Indian High Commission, six suspects have been arrested in connection with the case. The suspects reportedly include two Pakistani nationals, two Kenyan nationals and an Indian national. A local minor who allegedly assisted the group was also taken into custody.
The three Indian nationals were eventually rescued from the alleged kidnappers and safely repatriated from Kenya. According to the Indian High Commission, all three victims are from Punjab.
