BBC s new chairman is an Indian

London: Dr. Sameer Shah of Indian origin has created history by being appointed as the new chairman of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). Born in Aurangabad, India, Sameer migrated to Britain in 1960. With four decades of experience in TV production and journalism, Sameer previously served as a Non-Executive Director of the BBC and Head of Current and Political Affairs at the network.

The official announcement of his appointment on Thursday followed the approval of the selection process by Britain's King Charles III earlier in the week. Sameer will serve in the role for four years starting March 4, with an annual salary of around Rs. 1.68 crores. In 2019, he was awarded a Commander of the Order of the British Empire by the late British Queen Elizabeth II for his outstanding services to the British television industry. Since 1998, Sameer has been heading Jupiter TV.
