Durga idol immersion violence: Bahraich Violence Erupts During Durga Idol Immersion, 1 Dead, 30 Detained

Bahraich: A 22-year-old man was killed during clashes in Bahraich, prompting the police to take swift action. Authorities have arrested one person and detained around 30 others in connection with the communal violence that erupted in Mansoor village, officials reported on Monday.

The conflict occurred on Sunday in the Mahrajganj area of Mansoor village during a Durga idol immersion procession. The violence involved stone pelting and gunfire, leaving around six people injured.

Bahraich Superintendent of Police (SP) Vrinda Shukla stated that efforts are underway to restore peace in the affected areas. A significant police presence has been deployed, and she emphasized that all disruptive elements will be identified and dealt with strictly. "We are committed to taking strong action against those responsible," Shukla added.

A case has been filed against a man named Salman, from whose house gunshots were reportedly fired. His house also operates as a shop. The police are working to identify others involved, and several suspects have been detained for questioning.

The violence reportedly started over a dispute about loud music being played during the procession. Ram Gopal Mishra, a resident of Rehua Mansoor village, was walking in the procession when he was shot. He was rushed to the hospital but later died from his injuries, according to his family.

Tensions escalated in the area following the killing, leading to the cancellation of similar processions in nearby towns, including Fakharpur. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath condemned the violence and instructed local authorities to ensure that the idol immersions proceed smoothly and on time. He also directed the police to maintain security at the immersion sites.
