Hezbollah Drone Attack Wounds Two in Northern Israel Amid Rising Tensions

Northern Israel: Hezbollah drone attack on northern Israel injures 2 troops, sparks fire. Tensions rise after Hezbollah commander Shukur and Hamas leader Haniyeh's assassinations.

Early Monday, the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah launched a drone attack on northern Israel, resulting in injuries to two Israeli soldiers and causing a fire, according to the Israeli military.

This incident heightens concerns of a broader regional conflict following the recent killings of a senior Hezbollah commander in Lebanon and Hamas' top political leader in Iran.

Hezbollah, which is backed by Iran, stated that the attack on a military base in northern Israel was in retaliation for "attacks and assassinations" carried out by Israel in several villages in southern Lebanon.

The attack seemed to fall short of the more significant retaliation expected for the killing of Hezbollah commander Fouad Shukur in Beirut the previous week.

The Israeli military reported that firefighters were working to extinguish a blaze ignited by the attack in Ayelet HaShahar in upper Galilee.

Israel and Hezbollah have been engaged in near-daily exchanges of fire over the past 10 months amidst the ongoing Gaza conflict, though they have managed to avoid a full-scale war.

The assassinations of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran and Hezbollah commander Shukur in Beirut last week have escalated regional tensions, with Israel anticipating potential retaliation from Iran and its allied militias.
