Trump: Capitol Riots Were Not My Fault, Just A Day of Love

Donald Trump insisted that the January 6 Capitol riots were not his responsibility, stating that the protesters didn't storm the Capitol because of him. Speaking at a town hall event in Florida on Wednesday, the former president expressed confidence that "nothing wrong" occurred during the riots. He explained that the demonstrators gathered because they believed "the election was rigged," not because of his influence.

During the event, Trump made these comments after a Republican supporter said they would not vote for him due to his actions on January 6. The voters also asked why they should support him when many of his former administration members, including Mike Pence, do not.

In response, Trump dismissed claims of wrongdoing, asserting that "nothing was done wrong at all," according to NBC News. He added that only "a very small portion" of people do not support him, but because it's him, their opposition receives media attention. He reiterated his disagreement with Mike Pence's actions on that day while maintaining that those involved in the riot "didn't come because of me," despite his December 19, 2020 tweet calling for a "big protest" on January 6, which he said would "be wild."
