Fife, Scotland, UK: A former college lecturer in the UK has admitted to causing the deaths of an Indian-origin couple in a head-on crash while drink-driving following a work Christmas party.

Satwant Singh and Jatinder Kaur were travelling along the B981 near Cluny in Fife on December 19 last year when their vehicle was hit by a car driven by Sophie Eve Hynd.

Jatinder died at the scene of the collision, while Satwant died two days later in hospital.

Hynd pleaded guilty at the High Court in Edinburgh on September 3 to causing their deaths by dangerous driving, according to Digby Brown Solicitors.

The 33-year-old, who previously taught computer animation at Fife College and subsequently lost her job, wept as she was remanded in custody at the High Court in Edinburgh.

Judge Michael O'Grady KC described the offence as "very grave".

Following the conviction, the couple's three children paid tribute to their parents and asked for privacy as they continue to grieve.

“We could never have prepared for losing our parents in this way. We will miss them more than words can express, but we’ll carry their love and everything they taught us for the rest of our lives,” their children said.
