Lawrenceville, Georgia, USA: A 51-year-old man has been charged with multiple counts of murder and assault after allegedly shooting and loss four relatives, including his wife, during an early-morning incident at a residence in Lawrenceville, Georgia. The tragic shooting has deeply shaken the local community and the Indian-American population across metro Atlanta.
According to police, officers responded to a report of gunfire at a home on the 1000 block of Brook Ivy Court at around 2:30 a.m. Upon arrival, authorities discovered four adults inside the residence with fatal gunshot wounds. Three children — aged 7, 10, and 12 — were found unharmed while hiding inside a closet. Officials confirmed that the 12-year-old, the suspect’s son, placed the emergency 911 call.
Investigators identified the suspect as Vijay Kumar, 51, who was located a short distance from the scene shortly after the shooting and taken into custody without resistance.
The victims were identified as Kumar’s wife, Meenu Dogra (43); her sister, Nidhi Chander (37); their brother, Gourav Cumar (33); and Nidhi Chander’s husband, Harish Chander (38). Authorities noted that Kumar and Dogra also have an adult daughter who was not present at the residence at the time of the incident.
Police stated that the shooting followed an argument between Kumar and his wife at their own home earlier that night. The couple later traveled to the Brook Ivy Court residence, where the fatal violence occurred. Investigators have not yet disclosed further details regarding the motive or sequence of events leading up to the shooting.
Kumar has been charged with a total of 15 felony counts, including four counts each of malice murder, felony murder, and aggravated assault. He also faces one count of cruelty to children in the first degree and two counts in the third degree, related to the presence of minors during the incident.
Court records regarding bond, legal representation, and the suspect’s initial court appearance have not yet been released. The case remains under active investigation.
