A tragic road accident in Afghanistan’s Herat province claimed no fewer than 71 lives when a passenger bus collided with a truck and a motorcycle, leaving the region in deep shock. 

Most victims were recently deported Afghan migrants returning from Iran. Officials blame excessive speed and negligence, with a full inquiry underway.

Footage showed the bus engulfed in flames as firefighters failed to rescue passengers. Four lives were lost when a truck and a motorcycle collided, claiming both riders and both occupants of the car.

Authorities noted over 1.5 million Afghans have returned from Iran and Pakistan this year amid stricter border controls.
