Felix Baumgartner, famed for his record-breaking supersonic skydive, has died at 56 in a paragliding accident in Italy.
The accident took place near the coastal town of Porto Sant’Elpidio, located along Italy’s eastern shoreline.
In 2012, Baumgartner became the first skydiver to break the sound barrier, jumping from 24 miles (38 km) above Earth and reaching speeds over 690 mph.
His daring leap, watched live by millions, cemented his legacy in aviation history.
Authorities suggest he may have experienced a health issue mid-air, leading to the fatal crash. His death was confirmed by local officials and emergency services.
