A tragic train accident occurred near Riedlingen in southwestern Germany, where a passenger train carrying nearly 100 people derailed, resulting in the deaths of at least three individuals and injuring several others.
Emergency services quickly arrived on the scene, and rescue efforts are currently underway as officials investigate the cause of the derailment.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz expressed shock, said he was in touch with authorities, and urged full support for rescue efforts. He offered condolences to the victims’ families.
The derailment occurred in a rugged, forested area between Sigmaringen and Ulm. The cause is still under investigation, and a 40-kilometer stretch of the route has been closed.
