Las Cruces, New Mexico, USA: Indian American public health expert Jagdish Khubchandani has been elected as the new secretary of the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME), an international organization that brings together medical journal editors from over 50 nations. His term will continue until 2027, and he was selected from a membership base of more than 1,500 editors.

Established in 1995, WAME works to advance the reliability, transparency and quality of medical publishing across the world. Khubchandani has been part of the organization for more than ten years and previously served on its board. In his new role, he will be responsible for coordinating leadership meetings, overseeing governance processes and managing official communications for the association.

“It is a privilege to serve an organization committed to improving editorial quality, upholding ethical standards in medical publishing, and encouraging global cooperation,” he said.

Khubchandani joined New Mexico State University in 2020, where he serves as a public health professor. Over his career, he has written more than 200 research papers in top medical and public health journals and contributed editorial expertise to several peer-reviewed publications.

Before his tenure at New Mexico State University, he taught for nearly ten years at Ball State University, and earlier held academic and research roles at the University of Toledo and Western Kentucky University.

His academic background includes a doctorate in public health education from the University of Toledo, a master’s degree in public health from Western Kentucky University, and an MBBS from M.G.M. Medical College, Indore.

WAME President Chris Zielinski noted that Khubchandani’s strong academic record and editorial experience will help the association advance its mission of improving global medical publishing standards. According to Khubchandani, WAME will continue focusing on raising editorial quality, supporting ethical research practices and offering training opportunities for editors around the world.
