Indian American Sunny Reddy Becomes Michigan GOP Co-Chair, Marks Historic Win

Lansing, Michigan, USA: Sunny Reddy, an Indian American entrepreneur and community leader, has been unanimously elected as the Co-Chair of the Michigan Republican Party, marking a historic moment for the Indian American community in the state.

Reddy’s appointment, confirmed by unanimous vote, highlights his rising prominence among Indian American Republicans in the Midwest. Michigan Republican Party Chairman Jim Runestad, who nominated Reddy, praised him for his dedication, outreach efforts, and integrity.

Choosing a co-chair wasn’t easy, but Sunny’s commitment and work ethic are unmatched," Runestad said. "He’s engaged with communities across Michigan and genuinely cares about every corner of the state.

Runestad also emphasised Reddy's deep connections within Michigan’s Indian American community. "At one of his events, over 600 people and their families wanted photos with him—he’s practically a celebrity in our community," he added. He further noted Reddy’s quiet philanthropic work, often supporting community needs without seeking recognition.

The motion to approve Reddy unanimously was swiftly passed, with the room responding with a resounding "Aye."

After taking the stage, Reddy spoke emotionally about the honor and its significance for Indian Americans in Michigan. "I am proud to be the first Indian American elected to this position as a Republican in Michigan," he said, earning applause from the audience.

Reddy pledged to collaborate closely with party leaders during what he called a crucial electoral cycle. "Michigan faces one of the most consequential election years in recent memory. President Trump is working to strengthen America, while Democrats are aiming to stop him. Michigan is the primary focus for both parties," he said.

With major statewide elections coming up—including Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, U.S. Senate, and educational boards—Reddy promised full dedication. "As co-chair, I will work tirelessly to support candidates, raise resources, and build a strong Republican team for President Trump and Michigan," he stated.

He emphasised that "unity, discipline, and determination" would guide the party toward success in 2026.

For Michigan’s growing Indian American population, this unanimous selection is a landmark. Reddy has earned recognition not only through political involvement but also through philanthropy, having raised millions for COVID-19 relief, disaster support, and aid to families of first responders.

His election reflects the increasing representation of Indian Americans within state party structures across the U.S., highlighting a demographic that has become more politically active over the past twenty years.

As a key battleground state, Michigan sees both parties enhancing outreach to Asian American and diaspora communities. Reddy’s rise positions the Republican Party with one of its top Indian American leaders in the Midwest heading into the critical 2026 elections.
