Gaurav Kundi, a 42-year-old Indian-origin man, died on June 12, two weeks after a forceful arrest by police in Adelaide's eastern suburbs on May 29. He sustained critical trauma to his brain and cervical spine, requiring immediate life support intervention. An internal investigation is underway, but South Australia’s Police Commissioner claims bodycam footage doesn't show excessive force.
The incident began after a public argument with his wife, Amritpal Kaur, who said Kundi was drunk but not violent. She alleged that police kneed him in the neck and slammed his head, leading to unconsciousness. Kundi was hospitalised with critical injuries but didn’t survive.
