A massive fire at the newly opened Al-Kut Hypermarket in Iraq's Wasit province has killed at least 50 people.

The blaze, which broke out in the city of Al-Kut, sent thick smoke and flames through the building, as seen in viral videos.

Rescue teams are still working at the site, searching for survivors.

The exact cause is still unknown, but eyewitnesses claim the blaze began within the supermarket and quickly intensified, fueled by highly flammable items stored inside.

Several people have been injured and are receiving treatment. The death toll may rise.
