Kerala nurse Nimisha Priya faces execution in Yemen on September 16, as her family seeks Supreme Court intervention.

But the Centre told the court it cannot prevent the execution as the Yemeni government is unwilling to back down.

Attorney General R Venkataramani called the situation “very unfortunate” but stressed the government's limitations.

He said all possible efforts had been made and explained that only blood money, financial compensation to the victim’s family, might stop the execution.

Kerala nurses have reportedly raised ₹8.6 crore for this purpose, but even that may not guarantee a resolution.
