NRI Families Seek Urgent Govt Intervention,Hyderabads Pravasi Prajavani Sees Flood of Appeals

The ‘Pravasi Prajavani’ programme at Praja Bhavan on Friday saw a surge of petitions from NRI families seeking assistance from the state government. One such petition came from the family of a young man who was deceived into accepting a job in Myanmar. They appealed to the government to rescue him and bring him back to India. Musthafa Ullah Khan, a resident of Charminar, had informed his family that he was being forced into a network involved in internet fraud. His family called for government intervention to secure his return.

TPCC NRI Cell convenor Bheem Reddy Mandha explained that the programme's facilities were being used by several NRI families, who were submitting their requests for assistance. On November 8, the family of Vontari Narsa Reddy, a resident of Sirnapalli in Nizamabad district who tragically died in a road accident in Saudi Arabia in 2020, asked the government to help recover the salary dues from the company that employed him at the time of his death.

Another petitioner, Mohammed Zakir, submitted a complaint seeking help in retrieving Rs 1.2 lakh that an agent had taken from him for securing a job in Dubai. Zakir had gone to Dubai on a visit visa but was unable to find employment and eventually returned to India.

Pradeep, who came from Canada to attend his brother's funeral, told officials that he was unable to return to Canada because of work permit issues. His wife remained in Canada, and he requested the government's intervention to help him reunite with her.

The family of Mohammed Wasiuddin, who died in Sharjah on November 30, 2023, presented a plea asking the government to approve an additional Rs 5 lakh. According to the existing rules, only families of those who passed away after December 7, 2023, are eligible for ex-gratia, but Wasiuddin's family urged that their request be considered on humanitarian grounds.

Another woman appealed to the government to take action and bring her husband back to India from Saudi Arabia, as he had abandoned her. The range of requests from NRI families varied widely, and TPCC NRI Cell convenor Mandha assured that officials were working on addressing each one.
