The US State Department has revoked more than 6,000 student visas this year as part of the Trump administration’s crackdown on immigration.
Officials cited violations of US laws, criminal offences, visa overstays, and national security concerns, with 200–300 cases linked to terrorism-related activities.
The administration has also tightened admission rules for international students and increased scrutiny of campus activism, particularly protests around the Israel–Gaza conflict, which it claims fosters antisemitism.
Ivy League universities such as Harvard, Brown, UC, and UPenn have been accused of failing to protect Jewish students.
In one high-profile case, Tufts University PhD student Rumeysa Ozturk was detained after her visa was cancelled, though later released by court order.
